If so, the Food Lodging Institution Section of Wake County Environmental Services would like to meet you! We are seeking qualified applicants for our Environmental Services Team Leader position.

Primary Duties:

  • Supervise a team of 5-7 Environmental Health Specialists who inspect food, lodging, and institutional facilities as well as child care facilities, tattoo facilities and public swimming pools as required by state rules and regulations
  • Train staff and conduct quality assurance to assure staff are consistent in interpretation of the rules and regulations
  • Inspect, evaluate, and issue permits to food, lodging, and institutional facilities as well as child care facilities, tattoo facilities and public swimming pools
  • Conduct and manage foodborne and communicable disease outbreak investigations
  • Perform emergency response and complaint investigations
  • Educate the general public concerning environmental and public health issues
  • Conduct special projects as required

About Our Team

The Wake County Environmental Services Environmental Health and Safety Division’s mission is to reduce public health and safety risks to citizens and visitors of Wake County through efficient and effective plan review, audits, and education. Wake County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation with a population of over 1 million. The Food Lodging Institution Section won the 2016 Samuel J. Crumbine Consumer Protection Award in 2016.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours in physical or biological science. Three years of experience in environmental health. Equivalent education and experience combination accepted. A valid driver’s license and a “safe” driving record required.

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Current or prior supervisory experience
  • Relevant NC authorizations related to public health and inspections

Hiring Range: $22.97 – $31.01
