The hiring range for this position starts at $56,351, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who meet the minimum education and experience requirements for the role. If you have the necessary education but only partial experience, you may still be considered at a trainee rate of $25.8019 per hour, remaining at this rate until you meet the minimum experience qualifications.

This full-time position operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. However, flexibility is essential as you may need to work weekends and adjust your weekday schedule accordingly. Additionally, availability during emergency situations is a must.

As an Environmental Health Specialist with New Hanover County’s Public Health Department, you will engage in independent fieldwork, safeguarding public health by inspecting food and lodging establishments to ensure compliance with public health regulations. Your role will also involve promoting public health through education, consultation, surveillance, evaluation, permitting, inspection, and enforcement of federal, state, and local statutes, laws, and rules governing food service establishments, lodging, childcare centers, schools, institutions, and public swimming pools.
