What You’ll Be Doing

Primary Duties:

· Perform inspection of food, lodging, and institutional facilities required by state rules and regulations

· Conduct foodborne and communicable disease outbreak investigations

· May inspect swimming pools and tattoo facilities

· Performs emergency response and complaint investigations

· Educate the general public concerning environmental and public health issues

NOTE: We are currently recruiting qualified applicants for an Environmental Health Specialist position.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours in physical or biological science. Two years of experience in Environmental Health as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (Intern). Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) and relevant authorizations required. A valid driver’s license and a “safe” driving record required.

Market Range Midpoint: $29.99
Market Range Maximum: $37.76

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours in physical or biological science. A valid driver’s license and a “safe” driving record required. NC REHS must be obtained within three years and relevant authorizations within one year of employment.

The Wake County Environmental Services Environmental Health and Safety Division’s mission is to reduce public health and safety risks to citizens and visitors of Wake County through efficient and effective plan review, audits, and education. The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

· Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours in physical or biological science

· Two years of experience in environmental health as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (Intern)

· NC Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)

· NC relevant authorizations (transferable)

· Driver’s license and a “safe” driving record

· Equivalent education or experience is accepted.

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

· National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) – current exam credential
