Durham County Environmental Health an opening for Registered Environmental Health Specialist in the General Inspections Program (Position # 40001154)
Registered Environmental Health Specialist candidates with current State authorizations in food and lodging preferred. Additional State authorizations are desirable. Registered Environmental Health Specialist candidates with greater than two years of experience in environmental health are preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience. Program responsibilities of this position include inspection and enforcement of state and local environmental health laws, rules and regulations that apply to food services, lodging, institutions and day care centers. Computer use is essential with working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and experience with Custom Data Processing software highly desirable. Ability to exercise sound judgment and deal tactfully with clients while enforcing public health laws is a must. Effective oral and written communication skills are highly desired.
Special Requirements: Must be a Registered Environmental Health Specialist by the NC State Board of Environmental Health Examiners with current State authorizations in food and lodging. Registered Environmental Health Specialist candidates with greater than two years of experience in environmental health are preferred. Applicant must be a Registered Sanitarian by the NC Board of Sanitarian Examiners.
Trainees may be considered. Trainee appointment requires graduation from a four-year college with 30 semester hours of course work in the physical or biological sciences. Trainee must apply for registration as a Sanitarian Intern within 60 days of employment. Applicant must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license and a three-year acceptable driving record for operation of a county vehicle.
